I originally posted this at NBC, but thought I'd echo it here: http://boards.nbc.com/nbc/index.php?showtopic=811378

So I've been entertaining myself with a very relaxing saturday, looking through some of the hilarious SNL videos out there on Hulu and nbc.com

I've been working too much and missing the late night original broadcasts recently...

I just heard about Adam Sanberg's hilarious Jizz in my pants video short... watched that... and was tickled silly..

Next up was the Timberlake / Sanberg / Beyonce / Paul Rudd Single Ladies hilariousness..

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/thedishrag...-is-justin.html

strangely that one has been yanked off youtube, but can still be found hosted on various sites out in the wild... Was definitely harder to find.. and I'm sure it's terribly complicated as to why that had to be yanked...

Another thing that perplexes me, is that all the fantastic musical guests seem to be left off of the video content that gets posted to hulu and nbc for the time being.

I see there are backstage "Tastes" of musical brilliance... like this...
http://www.hulu.com/watch/38083/saturday-n...age-the-killers

But unless I'm missing something, the actual Killers performance, or Arcade Fire or anybody else all seams to be nixed from the web..

I'm guessing the content gets posted to youtube and regularly taken down..

what's the rationale here? labels are worried about giving away recordings of the live performances for free? or the musical performance would require royalties per click beyond what the ad revenue supports if we were to watch it on Hulu and NBC?

Perhaps the Creative commons licensing model could be a solution to this?
http://creativecommons.org/

Tom- unless you're in the YouTube Partners program (where you have a field to list CC and other information), there isn't a way to communicate that to YouTube. However it's unlikely someone would take action on your video. I suggest simply putting the CC information at the bottom of your video description. If someone raised concerns, they'd look there first. And that should keep you secure. As for your first point, you would have had plausible deniability on commercial use until you said that on this discussion board! ;)

I recently produced a video of a snowboarding contest and posted it to YouTube. I cut the video to a music track sourced from Jamendo.com (released with an Attribution-Share Alike 2.0 license). This seemed the safest option given that the event had commercial sponsors who were likely to pick up on my video and embed it elsewhere; I figured that would be pushing the definition of 'non-commercial' as, by my idea of fair-play, the video would essentially have become a marketing tool - but that's another discussion altogether!

Here's my problem --- At the end of the video I have of course provided the artist with a full-screen graphic crediting the track and album name. I also got the code ready for the license for my work but I cannot find any way on YouTube to include the HTML or attach a CC license to the video to make people aware that it has been released under Creative Commons (and YouTube's forum sheds no light on it at all). Any ideas for how to sort this out? I've provided attribution to the artist but my video is already racking up the hits and I feel like I've only lived up to half my part of the deal by having no easy way of drawing attention to the licensing of my derivative. Would an in-video Creative Commons graphic be the best way in future (perhaps with a URL for the license agreement underneath?)

Any guidance would be much appreciated, cheers guys!

http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.5/au/legalcode

# Performance Royalties Under Blanket Licences. Licensor will not collect, whether individually or via a performance rights society, royalties for Your communication to the public, broadcast, public performance or public digital performance (e.g. webcast) of the Work.

Youtube now pay royalties for the use of content to rights organizations. Youtube have not yet integrated any of the creative commons licenses into their upload system.

If someone makes media using content licensed with a cc license and then uploads that content to youtube, do the rights to that content flow on?

i've heard talk of CC and YouTube discussions for some time now.

in terms of rights management options for screen practitioners, the best i've seen thus far is what's on offer at http://engagemedia.org/. although they're not in the business of generating royalties, their rights management tool(s) are very good.

and what of Vimeo and any emerging others? in interest in these hills?

Youtube pay royalties on the amount of youtube plays.

if the creative commons licenses were integrated into part of the upload system (through the request of subscriber) public spaces could use these works without that space having to pay the rights organizations for use of content.

its possible to put a link, yet a link to a license that can be changed at anytime is not much use to the user of that content.

does youtube have plans to incorporate the license, if so when?
