Dear Yagan,
thanks for your helpful reply. I have a related concern and would be happy for another advice. Some of the photos I use show people. I assume that not all photographers have obtained permission from those depicted to use the photos for non-private purposes. Can I get into legal trouble for using such photos or is this the duty of the photographer/artist? I would be happy for feed-back since the publisher of my book has declined responsibility for the photos.

Very kind regards, Steffen

People can withdraw the licence, but it wont retrospectively effect the license currently attributed to it, only subsequent publications. Effectively, the version or edition that is licensed under a Creative Commons BY-SA or BY license will continue to maintain that licence until the Copyright of the work has expired.

Regards,

Hi,
a publisher has consented to publish a book of mine which will use numerous flickr.com pictures. All pictures have creative commons licenses that ***currently*** allow the usage for commercial purposes. I am now a bit worried what happens if licenses are withdrawn in the future (which at times happens). At the moment, I credit the artists, name their work and state the date at which the license was valid for my purpose. Can I be sued for copyright infringement if my book is published with valid licenses but those licenses (allowing usage for commercial purposes) are withdrawn only months later?
I would be very happy for your thoughts.
Happy Easter, Steffen
